Hotpoint WD64 Poor Drying Performance

I’ve been twice to this machine and can’t find anything wrong. Both halves of the heater are heating, fan is working, water is trickling through a fluff free condenser and being pumped away, the top of the condenser is warm, the bottom is cold. One thing I did notice though, I had it running for about 5 minutes with an empty drum and the drum didn’t get all that warm. As there was hardly any fluff elsewhere I didn’t strip and check the airway from the top of the drum to the heater but could this be blocked? 😕

For what its worth if you have checked that the condenser process is functioning correctly and that its getting hot, you have air flow, condenser solenoid operating.

I have had these that have had the condenser blocked, remedy to remove and clean out. Also something else to be aware of is that I have also had poor drying resluts with machines run on liquid. The nett result being that the rear half of the inner drum is packed with a dirty acumalation of gunge which holds excesive moisture and most likely the rear of the spider and drum coated as well.

You can check the air flow from the heater box to the drum by running with the door open.

Ah yes, never thought of that. I did take the condenser off and it was clean as a small wind instrument. What I could see of the spider through the bottom condenser inlet in the tub also looked clean.

Fan used to work loose on the shaft with these. That should take out the safety, though.

had one once where the sump was blocked causing a poor spin to start with then a poor drain of the condensor discharge . its worth a look
