ParticipantI’m trying to fix a WD640 which is my son’s. It’s not much over a year old. The dryer has no heat; when the fault first appeared it showed F13. Apparently the room was very hot at the time, so I suspected a thermal cut-out.
The machine is at his house so I can’t look at it without driving over there; which is why some of my actions seem to be in the wrong order. The first time I went I didn’t have the right Torx bits, the second time (just now) I took the top off the dryer module and had a good look. I’d quote the serial but when I was at the machine I didn’t know where to find it (I now know it’s on the door hinge and will look next time).
Before my second trip I ordered the following from the Whitegoods shop:
1604802 Hotpoint Dryer Thermistor and
1605160 Hotpoint Washer Dryer Thermal Cut-OutWhile waiting for delivery, I thought I might get it running by resetting the cut-out, but I can’t find it; there only seems to be a thermistor. It has a metal fan, and a coiled heater element, which from other posts I think might mean a later model. Can anyone tell me if there is a cut-out, and if so, where?
The fan blades were choked with fluff, to the extent that it couldn’t have been moving much air. Is that normal, or does it point to a filter fault?
Thanks,

is the correct thermal fuse.. its in the link wire from the loom to the heater, with a sheath, screwed to the box itselfnow if its gone, u need to know why
split the heater box, if it has a grey ribbed hose to the rear of the box, it has a filter that needs cleaning or replacing, make sure the fan runs freely and isnt foulingcould even be the heater, test it with a meter
all with the plug out of course

Thanks, helo_75, that’s really useful.
I took a photo of the heater box and that thermal fuse you describe is there. Sloppy thinking on my part not to realise what it was. It’s on order now.
I checked the heater with a meter; it’s not open circuit. Fan spins freely and doesn’t foul on anything.
There’s a grey ribbed hose about 1cm or 1.5cm diameter, comes into the back corner of the heater box via a 90ยบ elbow – but I can see it without splitting the box. Is that the one you mean?
Thanks,
