My Hotpoint wd71 died a couple of weeks ago. I think that the door interlock, which had been gradually failing has blown the controller and power modules. I sent them off to a company called qer to be fixed but apparently they were beyond repair.

I’ve had trouble finding spares (hotpoint charge £70 for each one), but i’ve recently found someone willing to sell me a broken wd72 for much less.

I phoned hotpoint to find out whether the pcb’s are the same and apparently the controller is but the power board has a different part number.

So my question (finally!) is will the power module work in my machine? (assuming i replace the interlock as well) or will it blow up again?

Door interlock usually blows the control module first. Worth trying replacement control module and new door lock first with your original power board. The two different part numbers suggest that the power modules will not be interchangable. Check closely to see if all the contacts/connectors are the same, or put your good bits in the WD72. 🙂

With the plug removed whilst you are doing so. 😉 :zap:

Unfortunatly the power board is fried too and the guy who’ll sell me the wd72 bits lives at the other end of the country. He was going to take out the pcb’s and post them up.

I guess my choices are either to take the chance that the power board will work (at least the controller is the same so the connections to that will be ok) or to write it off and start looking for a new machine.
