I have alway tried to avoid this fault with Hotpoints W/Ds as there never seemed to be a definitive answer to the problem. Have been asked to look at one for an agent I work for and have checked the usual, Drum, Seal gap and bearing play all look ok. Other than the tenant overloading the drum is there a good chance of a fix at a reasonable price as the the machine is probably over 5 years old.

Overloading is the most likely cause. I used to adjust the front feet to give the machine a very slight backward tilt as well.

The tenant showed me one the damaged items a torn sock but it did look like the hole had been caused by friction, ie overloading, She also stated that her partners best Giorgio Armarni shirt had been damaged, 😉 I asked her if she overloads the machine but of course she denied it. Was there not once a modified drum front panel kit available to decrease the seal/drum gap?.

Three spacer washers between the inner drum and support, waste of time though as she is overloading it!
