For the 5th time in as many years the dryer in my WD860 has packed up. It will I’m sure be the element as it has been every time.

My question though is does the machine use the dryer element to heat the water? I assumed not but have noticed when on a 95 wash that you occasionally hear the dryer.

The water heating element is…………………..in the water, 😉

The dryer element is at the top in the dryer assembly.

The dryer side on this machine is totally Indesit and has been a complete waste of time ever since it was stuck into this machine. It has had umpteen modifications and it is still very suspect.

As for the fan coming on during a 95° wash that could be due to a fault in the electronic controls, also Indesit and again rubbish sadly. 😥

    Thanks.

This machine has been a joke since U got it. Almost every part has been replaced (many more than once) during it’s life.

    Another engineer call tomorrow!

Never again will I buy Hotpoint.

Just remember, you actually bought an Indesit.

Try and avoid a washer dryer at all costs next time.

Make sure the next machine you buy does not have a sealed drum and be prepared to pay £400 + for anything even half decent.

Unfortunately my utility room is designed with just one machine in mind so I have to buy a washer/dryer – but yes, I appreciate individual ones would be much better.

On the subject of cost, this heap of junk cost about £450 so I don’t buy into the expensive is best camp.

Last engineer I had out had nothing good to say about the machines and told me to buy LG or Bosch when I asked what he would get.

£450 is the entry point for a half decent washer, never mind washer dryer.

The only washer dryer that is really any good is a Miele. My experience which goes back over 40 years tells me that in 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of cases the price does match the quality. 😉

£450 for a washer dryer is cheap IMHO.

Unfortunately you bought a machine with a Hotpoint badge and price which is nearly all Indesit inside.

With hindsight I made a very poor purchase and will never do it again.

I fell for the big brand and seemingly high price so must be good. Now I know better.

    Thanks

    Re: Hotpoint WD860 Drying Problem

Apart from the badge and external appearance, is there any difference between a Hotpoint and an Indesit?

there was.. the dryer assembly and tub were different

    not anymore though

although indesits might have one button less, the difference is seemingly nominal

    Re: Hotpoint WD860 Drying Problem

The last UK factory was closed last year. If you buy anything Hotpoint it will be an Indesit machine produced in Italy, Poland, China etc.

So there is no difference, they are both very poor quality. 😥

That also includes Ariston as well BTW.

    It’s such a shame.

When we looking for a temporary washer I did notice that the drums in the Hotpoint, Idensit and even some Haiers were the same.

When we eventually get our kitchen done I did consider a Hotpoint Washer Dryer but based off what I’ve seen on here I won’t touch them (or anything else branded Hotpoint or Indesit) with a bargepole!

    Re: Hotpoint WD860 Drying Problem

Unless you are going to buy a Miele washer dryer then don’t bother.

Try and find some way if at all possible to incorporate a separate washer and dryer, even a compact dryer is better than a washer/dryer every time.

    Re: Hotpoint WD860 Drying Problem

The problem is that our kitchen is so small that there is no room for a separate dryer (though something portable like this could do http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Brand-New-table-Top-Tumble-Dryer-TPTD120-OFFER-/120527606398?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Kitchen_Washing_Machines_Dryers).

Space is so tight that we are still considering getting another compact washing machine to make the most of the space. If we do get a washer dryer then it will be a Miele.
