Hotpoint WD860 – Long Slow Spin

Last couple of times I have used my WD860 for washing I have noticed that the cycle has taken a good 15-20 minutes longer than the display indicated – spending about 10 minutes saying 1 minute alone.

Also, while on the spin cycle, the speed never reaches full speed – just spins away at a medium speed.

Any ideas what could have caused this?

Just taken some stuff out (it was far from overloaded to begin with) and set it on a spin again.

Spinning fine now with a half load.

I am wondering if the sensor that slows it down if the load is out of balance might be faulty and making it think it’s off balance when it’s not.

or the machine is right, and your wrong?

there is no sensor…
its about reading the tacho .. the machine will never do the same load the same twice

overloading doesnt cause out of balance, underloading does

id be checking your heater at some point

The washer claims to have something which can detect an out of balance load and it is supposed to slow it down so as not to bounce around the place. I assumed a sensor.

The last load it did this on had a jumper and pair of jeans amongst other things in, so I assumed when wet they weigh a lot and could throw it out of balance.

Why would you check the heater? (the heater was replaced about a year ago by the way when it failed).

the 2 items would be worse…

sticking on the last minute for ages is usually something the machines not done
the only fault that doesnt give an error code is the heater

worth checking anyway ( it can make it not spin)

As helo says, there is no sensor. The main electronic control PCB is responsible for controlling an OOB (out of balance) load by monitoring the motor load and speed. The tacho is a part of the motor that is used to send this information to the electronics for all motor operations not just OOB. If the tacho was faulty then all of the speeds would be awry.

Thats a little simplistic but its safe to say, ‘there is no sensor’.

The system is widespread throughout the industry and although some machines are more sensitive than others it really does boil down to proper loading, there is hardly ever a need to change, adjust or alter a component to ‘make it better’ 😉

The Indesit electronics in these machines can suffer if the heater is down to earth, causing all sorts of problems.
