ParticipantHad a Hotpoint WD865A for 17 months now and it keeps coming up with a F-08 fault and draining the water in the drum. I believe this fault is related to the heater relay or element. I also now cannot read the LCD display as it is now so dim (the display started to deteriate a couple of months ago). Is the heater relay part of the LCD display PCB? If so I may as well bite the bullet and pay Indesit the £90 call out to replace both. I am an electrician to trade.

Different PCB’s the £90 labour & free parts would appear to be your best option.

Phoned Hotpoint for an engineer to visit. Was instructed by them that because I live in a remote area, Glasgow !!!, that I would not receive a visit until May at the earliest. After a lot of discussion, a visit has now been arranged for Tue 25th March, although they tell me ,the engineer is coming from “out of area!” Will let you know what happens.

Engineer arrived today from about 4 miles away!!!
Replaced LCD board , main module board and programmed new eprom. Cost of parts approx £200. Paid £90 call out fee ,as parts free under 4 year warranty. Although still unhappy machine is only 17 months old. Took him approx 30mins to do.

Only 17 months old. Surely: “not of merchantable quality”?

helo-75
So how does a PCB “breakdown” after just seventeen months?

Participantim not going to get into an argument with you
things go faulty.. if youve nothing productive to add to this thread, then i suggest you just leave it..
do you really think hotpoint would offer their fixed price repairs if everyone believed their machines to be ‘not of merchantable quality’?
cos otherwise, andy would have rang hotpoint, and theyd have said ‘oh, thats because none of our machines are of merchantable quality – heres a new one’
ill set the recored straight, for you and the rest of the consumer rights brigade.. if the consumer can prove that there was a fault from the start , and it was an ongoing issue then the supplier of the machine has some responsibility towards the consumerthe pcb my well have gone faulty, but such is life, it hasnt always been faulty, has it
i do wish people would stop quoting so called laws, and rights they blatantly have no idea about, all it will do in the end is stop people like myself posting messages to help people out – im already considering stopping posting in the public forum because, frankly, im tired of people picking fights when we’re supplying FREE information, which , in an ideal world we would be able to make just a little bit more money for.
i bet you dont enter forums about your job, and post messages and advise people freely
in fact, im just a little bit nearer to the day i stop posting publicly
for reference… the pcb has broken down, because the heater relay stuck – a device introduced to the machines as a saftey measure to ensure the machine doesnt overheat/heat with no water in.. etc
bearing in mind the heater relay is switched on and off quite a few times during the wash cycle.. it isnt any different to you standing by the light switch in your living room, and switching the light on and off, for around 20 minutes
would you expect the bulb to blow at some point?
and would you contact the house builder and have them send someone round to put you a new bulb in because its ‘not of merchantable quality’thats me done in this thread, and probably on the public forums

For Helo’s reference and for others that are thinking on the “merchantable quality” argument please have a read at this article, Consumer Rights Myths which should clarify the position.
In short, if it works for more than six months the rights you have diminish massively.
But heh, if you don’t want to believe us by all means go to court over it. I’m sure a judge will take into account all the anecdotal evidence posted on the internet.
If you want help we’re more than happy to help you and we’ll steer you toward that argument if you have even but a glimmer of hope in succeeding but, for the most part, forget it. You’ll get nowhere.
We’ve seen and heard it all before I’m afraid.
K.
