ParticipantHello all,
Hotpoint WDAL8640 has *excessive* (deafening) noise on spin/dry – something is not right?
An amount of grey powder is under the machine left/front, possibly from the door seal rubbing?
Have changed the belt for new @ rear. Could not find any evidence of the spindle wobbling loose?
I see it’s got four spring/shock supports, could one of these be faulty? It’s difficult to see any play/fault in the setup with casing off?
It’s just over a year old.
Thanks,

Could be loose concrete balance weight, totally sealed drum may already be damaged beyond repair. Is it noisy if you spin the drum by hand through the door aperture ?

iadom – thank you, spot on!
I’ve put the unit on it’s back and indeed, a balance weight on the front (that I can now see) is loose.
There was about 1/2 a cup of what must be concrete powder underneath!
The drum doesn’t seem to make any nasty noises when I hand spin it.
Now, just need to work out how to get access to the balance block …
Thanks again for a prompt reply!
Gareth.

update:
Got two torx star bolts which were hard work to tighten and positioning was difficult with a large wrench, but they did finally move. The initial problem was using a tiny wrench that had zero impact.
thanks again.

You may just be lucky and have caught it in time, it usually/eventually rips the weight right off the front of the drum. :rolls:
Best way to access is by removing the outer lip of the rubber door seal. 😉

update
Well, it’s had it.
Have spent the past few days attempting to fix it but one of the screws finally rounded off and long story short drilled a hole through the casing in a vain attempt to remove it. Snapped 3 metal bits going for pilot holes on the worn head. Shame they spot weld the box. The concrete block had worn large gaps around the washers/bolts so they were infective really, even on the two good ones fully tight.
Is it worth breaking parts on Ebay or just get it swapped with the new order?

Hmm, pity about the holes you drilled into the cabinet. The machine should still be covered by the manufacturers five year parts warranty. They would have repaired it for labour charge only. 🙁
