I have a new Hotpoint WDD960 washer dryer. I have just noticed that when doing a cotton wash dry cycle, the unit does a high speed spin during the drying cycle – leaving the clothes stuck to the side of the drum. Does anyone know whether this is normal behaviour or a fault?

    Many thanks,

    Alex

Hi the machine is designed to do a “thermal spin” after about 20 mins. I believe that if you look in the handbook it does mention this.

I’ve had a good look at the manual and can’t find any reference to a “thermal spin” anywhere in it!

    hi all,

your appliance does do a 5 minute thermal spin when the drying load temp reaches 50 C this normal and it should be in your handbook.

Been on the machines for years.

Even the old WD’s with the hybrid timer had it on later models, and if you ever had to fit a new timer or a control module to one of that model range the timer came with a leaflet to leave with the customer informing them of the spin during drying feature.

It isn’t in the manual though, just checked. In fact I believe the Indesit Company won some sort of award from somebody for the spin on dry feature on their machines, even though it was used on Hotpoint and others earlier.

What’s it supposed to achieve then? All it seems to do is to stick the clothes to the outside of the drum so that they don’t dry at all!

    Thermal Spin
A thermal spin on the High Heat setting is carried at the start of the of the drying process. The load is
pre-heated to approximately 50°C by the dryer heater with normal tumble action and pump out. The
thermistor located in the wash heater will sense the load temperature and when 50°C is achieved a 5
minute Spin profile will be carried out at full spin speed.
During thermal spin the out of Balance detection will operate and maximum speed will only be
achieved depending on the out of balance condition.
On completion of the Thermal Spin, the tumble drying process will commence for the period of time
    selected.
Thermal spin is NOT available when low heat is selected.

thats from the manual.. but still it doesnt say why

    hmm

    Hi

Some of the Servis Washer Dryers do it as well after about 8 mins.
