ParticipantMy Hotpoint WDD960 has recently developed a medium to loud buzzing/vibrating noise when pumping out.
It sounds more like a vibration on metal – possibly the pump on the casing – but the symptoms are odd.
You cannot hear it when there is a lot of water being pumped, but when it is almost empty it becomes evident and is very noticeable (even through a closed door with the TV on). As soon as the pump stops tye noise does as well.
When the machine is on dry however you cannot hear the noise when the pump is going at all. On dry the pump kicks in frequently and no noise at all.
Any ideas or suggestions? Does it just sound like a rattle/vibration or could it be more serious? I did wonder whether it was something in the pump, but don’t understand why it cannot be heard on dry.
Thanks

Most likely either something in the pump or the pump is on it’s way to being kaput.

Thanks
Might give Hotpoint a call and get an engineer booked.
Wouldn’t something in the pump make the noise when the pump is running during the dry cycle as well?

Perhaps but the pump is under more load on a full drain than it is on dry as it’s only clearing the condensed water.

Engineer booked. Will see what he says next week.
Annoyingly they told me they now only offer all day appointments, so I have to be in between 8am and 6pm, which is poor to be honest. Especially since you used to be able to choose first, am, pm or anytime. They will text before but it might literally be before so I can’t even go out!
Why do companies still think it’s acceptable to make people waste whole days. And to change from a user friendly system to this is ridiculous.

is it under warranty? because if its not, thats £110 already, your better off using repairs@ if it is the pump, pump £30ish inc vat + average rep@ callout £60 inclusive, plus you should be able to be offered at least a morning, noon or evening call slot… it could be even cheaper if its a quick fix and the pumps ok?!

and if it is under warranty, all day callouts are the way the brands service agents are going in order to get a first view within a week of a reported fault. it seems people would rather be seen inside a week and wait another week for parts to come in if needed, incase its a simple fix, rather than wait 10 days and have it fixed first time…

It is only 6 months old and is also on extended warranty which covers accidental damage ncluding crap in the pump. Only £70 for 2 years if I recall so not too bad, and cheaper than the callout charge.

ah ok then, so thats 2 years including first years manufacturers warranty then 😉
beware of extended warranties though, they can turn into a big ripp off, as once they get you onto direct debit you tend not to check the creeping up of the premium for each subsequent year. plus, if it becomes a write off, they are well known for offering something of the equivalent market value, rather than a brand new identical spec machine.

Yes, 2 years including the 1st.
In fact this machine was free to me as the extended warranty I had on my previous one replaced the machine at almost 5 years when it packed up, so I have good experence with them to be honest. Previous and this warran provided by Domestic and General through Hotpoint.

yes because its after the 5 years has passed when the replacement machine offered is then based on the dead machines current market value 😀
