ParticipantI have the UKWG’s fault code booklet but for some unknown reason it doesn’t seem to list the procedure for the Hotpoint Aquarius range.I’m having trouble with a WDL540. I have replaced the door lock and well-worn carbon’s but the machine still won’t start any programme. It gives 6 loud clicks of the door lock and that’s all. Is it telling me an error code at that?
Or perhaps someone would be kind enough to send me the relevant test sequence?
Thanks in advance, Clive

check wiring at door lock, motor and module(especially motor)
The clicking isnt a fault code it is the lock solenoid trying to engage.

Thanks for the reply. The door actually locks and it doesn’t unlock at all after the 6 clicks. I checked the wiring between motor and module – all fine. The machine actually started this time, on a drain and then on a rinse but as soon as the motor wanted to kick in it aborted and gave the 6 cliks of the door lock.
When I fitted the new brushes it sounded like it was sparking on fast spin. I’m leaning towards a faulty motor but none of the tabs are down to earth and I don’t know what resistances to expect between each tab.
Anyone got the diagnostics? It would probably help.

There are no ‘diagnostics’ for these, even if you use the hardware key it only comes up with the error codes.
Door lock clicking is usually down to motor/motor plug connections.
The later motor plugs have the most pathetic, tiny connections in them. Only yesterday I cut the plug off and connected up an old style, amp tag motor plug to cure a similar fault. If the motor is rough on full speed then its probably duff. 🙁

Just had a quick read through both the WML540 & WDL540 manuals and there is nothing specific regarding motor testing in either of them, just the error codes. If it is arcing on fast spin and you have fitted gen carbons then its odds on the motor is faulty.

Ok, thanks a lot for all your help. 😀 I’ll check the brushes but it was the same symptoms before I fitted the new brushes. Looks like a new motor is called for. :rolls:
