Hi, I’ve got a hotpoint wdm73 Ultima Extra washer/dryer that isn’t drying properly – everything else with the machine seems fine.

After completing a drying cycle the clothes in the machine are still wet – often more than when they went in. The clothes are hot so the heater element must be working.
Occasionally the clothes will be perfectly dry when they come out.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Paul.

    Thanks Chris,
I’ve checked and cleaned the condensor – seems ok. I’ve also taken the heater element off the top of the drum this also seems ok. The heater fan seem very effective.
The only thing I can think of now is the pump.
While i’ve been inside the machine I’ve noticed that the pump seems fine when on a wash cycle. However, on a drying cycle the pump only seems to be emptying the drum when the waste pipe is kept very low. If I run a drying program with the waste pipe into a bucket at ground level it all seems fine. If I raise the waste pipe during a cycle then I can see the water level rising inside the machine through the clear plastic pipes at the rear of the machine.
I’ve also noticed that the pump is running continuously during a drying cycle. Is this normal?

Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Paul.

    Re: Hotpoint wdm73 not drying

After checking each component individually I finally cam to a small plastic chamber (pressure chamber) fixed in front of, and beneath the drum. The piece of clear plastic tube from this to the pressure switch at the top of the machine was restricted with 7 years’ worth of gunk. A soak in hot water, some manipulation and a good flush through cleared the partial blockage.
Everything is now as good as new.
