    Hi

I have a Hotpoint WDM73A (Serial No 27179665) which makes incredibly loud banging noises when in the fast spin. I called out the Hotpoint engineer as the machine is only a couple of years old. He said it was the concrete weight. He went away to order the part, but apparently they do not make it any more. I can’t believe that this is the case – how different are they from machine to machine?

Anyway, they said they can’t fix it, and will offer me a replacement (WMD940A) at a “special” price – ie 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} off the RRP. I can find it much cheaper online. Don’t you think that the machine should be buily to last a little longer than 2 years?

Can anyone help with sourcing the part for me?

    Thanks ever so much
Jen (getting ripped off by Hotpoint!)

First things first, you are not being ripped off by Hotpoint, in fact you are not even being ripped off by the Indesit Company either who have owned Hotpoint for around nine years now. 😥

Your machine was produced in March 2004 so is over 6 years old. In fact the basic design of this machine has been around for over 15 years or more.

I have never, ever seen the concrete weights come off these machines but that doesn’t mean it could not happen.

A call to a local independent engineer may be a good idea. The weights are still shown as available on the latest Indesit parts software but as the machine has not been produced for over 5 years and it is a part that would be very rarely used they may well not have any left.

Its possible someone local may be able to source one from a second hand or scrapped machine.

Whatever you do do not buy another Hotpoint branded machine, it will be an imported Indesit from Italy or Poland. Your current machine is a Rolls Royce compared to them. 😉

In fact our advice is don’t buy a washer dryer in the first place unless its a Miele.

    obsolete on connect.

theoretically tho it could have sat in either the corner of HP warehouse or a distributors etc and sold 3 years later. ive just cleared a erroneous purchase thats sat around for 2 years in my shop, so it does happen.

also portway had some slimline nat linen d/w not very long ago… where they were uncovered i have no idea!

tbh tho a 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} is a bit crappy. unless theyve also refunded the £106 youve paid them to come out.

if your machine is actually only 2 years old and you have the proof of purchase it would be worth faxing/writing to c/s. at least if you get a 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} discount you could ebay it as BNIB

    Dear All

Thanks for all your replies. Been on the phone to Hotpoint, and the price they quoted me for a new machine did not take into account the fact my machine was only 2 years old. So, have managed to get new quotes with an approx 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} reduction on RRPs. So happy, and have ordered a new machine.

😆 PS – If anyone wants a WDM73A for spares, it all works except for the concete block being smashed. The bearings etc all seem fine. Collect only from Lincoln area. 😆

Where did you buy it from, the serial number dates it as over 6 years old?

Re: Hotpoint WDM73A – Concrete block smashed!

I didn’t buy the machine – it came with the house. I knew it was purchased by the previous owner, and they had only owned the house for 4 months (it was being done up by a builder before then for over a year). So, hence I knew it was bought between July-Oct 2008; confirmed by hotpoint customer services as Jul 08.

Based on the Which! survey, I ordered a Hotpoint WML560G for under £160 (rated as one of their best buys), and got a refund on the engineer visit cost. All in all, I’m happy with the price of the new machine and feel I have now been treated fairly (cheapest I could find it online was for £293). It’s being delivered and installed on Fri, so if anyone wants the old washer-dryer for £20 for parts feel free!

It’s now on ebay for 99p if anyone wants it?

Ironically just seen the same model (good working condition) for £50 on there, concrete balance weight intact I believe!

You should view Which reports with a great deal of caution. :rolls:

Even £160 is too much to pay for an Italian or Polish made Indesit machine of this low end quality. 😥

It has a sealed drum and very poor electronics.

If you had managed to get a new balance weight for your six year old machine I would be prepared to wager a months income that it would still be working long after the one you are getting has been scrapped.

for a machine thats ‘only a couple of years old’ hotpoints final, version 3 service manual was issued in aug, 2003

jims point is spot on, its at least 6

if a part for a 2year old machine was obsolete, they would have exchanged it

ur lucky theyve offered u what u got, but your unlucky that youve just bought one of the worst machines out there

out of the frying pan …..
