I acquired this Washing machine as it was tripping the mains.
Is this due to the brushes being worn and shorting ( a work colleague told me his did the same).

Any pointers would be appreciated before I start a strip down.

No need to ‘strip down’ you should be checking all components for insulation faults starting with the motor and the heater, then if nothing is found a thorough visual check of the wiring harness would be the next step.

Time to get your megger out. ( if you have one that is )

Hi, no strip down needed as yet as it does not trip at all. But I have tried a rinse and I can hear the water start to come through the Soap tray and then it just stops whilst the pump keeps running. Do I have a blockage ? Also the start light keeps flashing.

Are any of the left hand, vertical lights blinking slowly when the start light is flashing rapidly?

If you are lucky it may just need some new carbon brushes in the motor, if not either the motor, pcb or even both are goosed.

I don’t think it’s the motor as it does start to turn the drum unless there are some segments on the comm that have gone, but it could still be the brushes. Looks like i’m getting the tools out.

Ahh!! did I read somewhere that you then have to reprogram the Eprom and I suppose you need a Hotpoint engineer to do it with his/her laptop. They are selling eprom’s at £15.00 which isn’t bad ..
