    Hi all

This one is a bit of a puzzler, I was called out to this machine originally because it had had a fault (sounded like failing to start) which the owner had tried to fix and then blown it up (reconnected the interlock the wrong way round and damaged the board), I replaced the interlock and sent the board to EMW for repair, I refitted the board last week and after reseating the display board left the machine working away happily.

I have been back today because it has started playing up again with what might have been the original fault (which I hadn’t seen it produce before – making sense of what the original fault was is hard work and an impossible task), it locks the door, fills up, heats and then sits there – I thought that it must be the carbons so whipped the motor out to check them and found that they have over half their life left in them so refitted them and metered out the rest of the motor which comes back as perfect (Field coil 1.4 Ohms, Armature through brushes 3 Ohms, Tacho [can’t remember], Insulation 400 MOhms), I then proceeded to tug every connection on and to the motor and checked from the board to the motor with the same readings. The motor turns freely by hand but still won’t run even when completely unloaded, the machine does not show any error codes at any point even if left for an hour – I tried metering the motor as quickly as possible after pulling the mains plug to see if it is a thermal cut-out problem but it still meters as good.

I would normally be saying board fault but this is an exchange unit from EMW (which is possibly showing the very original fault) and to clinch it all when you plug in the hardware key and run the auto test it will turn the motor for a few revolutions.

So anyone got any ideas? I intend to go back with a second hand motor to see if that makes any difference and will chat with EMW in the morning.

maybe intermittent harness fault, my guess would be board or software if when testing on board you got the motor to go around and if motor seems ok
I heard about a faulty or low insulation ntc causing strange motor responses once but i think they said it was not spinning.

If harnesses are good I’d go with the board, Iv had some strange problems with refurb repaired ones before.
