ParticipantHello
Don’t know if anyone has seen this before
It started when I couldn’t switch on my hotpoint washing machine, pressing the on/off button didn’t light up the LED – checked the usual stuff fuse, plugged in etc etc – all ok. Switched off at the mains and left it overnight.
Switching the mains power back on in the morning – it would switch on and light up the LED. So loaded the machine and got it all ready to start, but although on (power LED lit) didn’t start it, as about to go to work – and given the problems, didn’t want it running with no-one in the house. Anyway returned home 4 hours later and the machine was running, but no-body would have pressed the start button… 😯
When the cycle had finished, the clothes felt like they hadn’t completed a rinse cycle. So set the machine to rinse/spin and set it going again. This time it start filling, and rinsing – but would then just stop – for like 10 minutes without doing anything – then would fill some more – then stop again, then rinse abit.. Anyway it carried on doing this – and concerned that we would never see our clothes again – we managed to get the machine to drain.
But at random times during this all the LED’s would flash on then off.
I managed to get a video of the LED’s flashing whilst the machine was being emptied – I’m trying to up load it to you-tube will post a link once done.
The machine itself is about 2 1/2 years old.
Any help gratefully receivedDave

It may say Hotpoint on the front but the electronics are all Indesit, notoriously unreliable and expensive. you are covered by their five year parts guarantee. You would have to pay the modest :rolls: £90.00 labour charge but all your parts will be FOC.
My advice would be to give them a call.

Hello All
Well the machine started working again – worked fine for about a week – now has gone back to doing odd things again. Today it started ok, then just stopped (about a minute in) – switching it off at the mains (the on/off switch on the front did nothing) and the machine started working fine – completed the wash cycle, all LED’s off as per normal. Emptied the machine, shut the down and it started up again all by itself…
I’ve had a brief conversion with Hotpoint, my main problem is that for about 90 quid they would come out and fix it, but I’ll have to be in all-day, which if I’m not at work would cost me alot, and by the time I’ve added the 90quid to it – there is only about 10 quid difference between this and the cost of a new machine.
So am wondering if there is any diagnostics I could do myself, then order up the parts from the hotpoint website and fit myself.
If it all goes wrong (the wife is very close to throwing it out the window) – which makes of washing machine are the best – I don’t mind paying a bit extra if it means it will last.
Thanks again for all your helpDave

Budget for £350 upwards and you will just start to creep into reliable machine territory.
To run the diagnostics you need a hardware key (£175.00) at the very least. To analyse your findings correctly you will need a laptop enabled with EMIT/Washdoctor software.
We have access to the key in the trade but the Indesit Company will not give the software to anyone other than their own engineers.
As for which is the best, it really depends how much you want to spend, here is a good place to start.
Our ISE10 machine is comparable to a Meile in quality, both of those are ‘the best’ but that sort of quality comes at a price.

Thanks Jim
To be honest I was wondering about having a quick look myself, checking the electrical connections, switches etc, and if I don’t find anything ordering a replacement PCB and fit that myself – can’t be that hard can it (I spend most my life desiging, installing and fixing both Optical and Electrical networks on vehicles) – and see if that fixes it, sort of a final X quid gamble (unless I could get one on a fix or return type thing)
However to be honest I think this machine is either ending up at the local tip, or free to good home if you think you can fix it – the mrs is well feed up with it.
In terms of a replacement – we would be wanting something to last and don’t mind paying for it – rather pay say 500 quid now for something to last atleast 6 years, than 250 and replace it in a couple of years.
I take it that Miele and ISE are viewed as the best? I know a friend has a Miele (as has his Mum) and he’s very happy with it.
Thanks once again

Participanta pcb (and an eprom, no doubt ) would cost you as much if not more than the £90 hotpoint charge
chuck it in the bin and buy a miele

Yep, thats what we’ve done – nice new miele, the mrs is sat in the kitchen watching it wash as I type.so if anyone wants an old hotpoint for spares or repair we have one, free to good home – well free to anyone that will collect it before christmas.
