    Hi all,
I’m ashamed to say I made a bit of a balls up today and I’m hoping that someone can help me out. I’d just finished a bearing job on a WF430 and on turning it on found out I’d connected up the motor wrongly, you know, mated the plug to the socket one pin out. Yes I can hear you all now, “what a kn*b”. Well I don’t suppose I’m the first to do it and I certainly won’t be the last. Anyway, after fitting it correctly, and trying it again, the motor now goes into instant full speed. Had a look at the board, no visible damage, but I presume I’ve blown a triac or something. It’s a mark 4 board as in EMW’s catalogue. Would it be the triac on the black heatsink that I will have to replace? Is it anything special or can I just use one from a scrap module? Can anybody help me out of this sticky situation?
    Cheers,
    Dave

    Re: Hotpoint WF430 blown pcb

Come on guys, I can’t be the only one to do this? I removed and tested the triac on the black heatsink. Seemed ok but replaced it anyway. Am I barking up the right tree? Any electronic boffins out there that can help?

have you checked the tacho wires in the motor plug very common for them to snap internaly but look on on the insulation, try giving them a tug at the motor plug.

Thanks for the reply, Bob. I will check them, but I do know that I made a c*ck up and have probably damaged the module. I was just hoping that someone would know the likely components on the board that are damaged and save myself the expense and time that getting one from EMW would incur. May just have to bite the bullet though and take it on the chin. Trouble is, EMW won’t re-open for business until tuesday.
