Well that’s what wilf has just said, have you checked them? After 4 years I’m surprised the motor has lasted let alone the carbons. :rolls:

checked the carbons, there virtually brand new. looking at the machine its barely been used. its 4 years old.
the power on button is lighting but nothing more.
i suspect its the pcb, are these a common problem.
looked at the pcb and no obvious signs of damage. but the push on connector strips and soldering in general is poor quality from new.
advised customer to call out hotpoint and let me know what the problem is.
she had the same problem with a previous new machine and hotpoint changed the full machine under warranty cos they couldnt fix it.i was going to solder it, but time was getting on, being 9-30pm. and the return journey there and back is 2 hours driving along back roads.
settled for £10 for fuel, to keep suctomer happy as i would feel guilty charging my £25 callout.
this machine has done my nut in and i just wanted to go home. anyone had any similar problems with this model.? would like to hear about it.

Hotpoint box, Indesit electronics. About as trustworthy as a chocolate fireguard, or a teapot made of ice. Stick ‘indesit AND electronics’ into Search and settle down for a long read…..

hi chris.
i thought as much, i examined the pcb through a glass, and told the old lady customer it is very poor quality, i could be on forever re soldering the puch on connector tracks and still not get any further forward.
the pcb says its made in romania.
i just wanted to get home, was tired and just said to customer ill settle for £10 instead of £25 as stated on phone.
ok journey cost about £15 total. but i like to keep my conscience clear, i wasnt sure at the time what the exact fault was and couldnt give a solid price.
ok ill never be rich i guess, but i was in two minds before i left to call whether to cancel it or not.
next time i have a long journey call, im going to make certain i know what the fault is before hand.
also hit a pheasant on the way and think i might of smashed my foglight.
i think i was meant to “goto bed” on this occasion, lol
ps chris, think i sorted that zanussi dishwasher out. i been to it today. will find out for definate next week if i made a definate repair on it.
this week it all been 3 in a row. of unlucky streaks.
maybe next week i have x6 carbons to change !! lolApril 20, 2010 at 12:11 am #317970Penguin45

If you can’t diagnose it in 20 minutes, it’s going to cost you money…. Thank goodness for carbons, pumps, blockages and black door seals.

yeah. thats true. i suspected that when she rang on the phone. but i like to make sure because i dont want to be made out to be pying to customers if i make a mistake.
round my area, bad names travel quicker than light, believe me.
so i like to be thorogh, the price i pay is using my time.
if i didnt see the job shell of just got someone else.
so, i guess im learning, above all gaining confidence from having a spell away from the trade.thanks for the dishwasher help, zanussi 5565. ive lost out in the call, having been 5 or 6 times, the sixth being her fault, she turned the adjuster legs the wrong way so it leaked out. but hey, she didnt get to me and was patient enough with me.
ill let you know for sure in approx a weeks time.April 20, 2010 at 7:08 am #317972DDSDDS

if this is the version with the large central display then the lcd is backlit by 5 leds which fail so either replace the leds or get another boards from emw about 45 quid

update.
thanks for the replies everyone.
the customer rang me today and told me the hotpoint guy had fixed it. it was something to do with the switches behind the control panel.
a costly mistake for me. mainly in time and travel. but looking on the bright side, i was as honest as possible with the customer and i think she will appreciate that.
hopefully she will call me again if something else goes wrong. -
