Hotpoint WF840 – Wool Wash Programme?

Hello. I have a Hotpoint WF840 Washing machine which is still under guarantee (under 12 months) and had to get a Hotpoint engineer out because I feel that the wool wash programme is washing too violently now than it used to.

I used to remember it just gently sloshing the clothes on a wool wash when we first bought the machine new but now the clothes stick to the side of the drum whilst washing on a wool wash and goes only in one direction.

The engineer came out to the house today plugged in his laptop to the machine and no codes showed up even though he did admit it didn’t look like ‘gentle action’ to him even so he phoned his head office who said that it was right that the clothes were sticking to the side of the drum and not just gently slopping around on a wool wash.

I have come to a stalemate because I think it should be washing more gently on a wool wash and the wife says it is stretching the wool jumpers she puts in now. but He and Hotpoint have said that its working right, what can I do?

I was just wondering that if anyone on here has a Hotpoint Ultima WF840 or WF860/865 whether you could advise me how your machine is really washing on the wool programme setting, is it just sloshing gently or is the drum going around a little fast in one direction and throwing the clothes to the side of the drum like this whilst washing in the wool wash setting?

    Huge thanks for any advice.

    Andy.

On wool wash the drum tumbles at 90 rpm. The idea is the garments stick to the drum and do not rub together like on a normal wash.

Thank you for the reply. I think there is a big difference between ‘gentle agitation’ and stick to the drum.

Also I cannot understand how we used to see the clothes gently go over the paddles when we used to do a wool wash but now it sticks to the edge of the drum. I am sure we were not dreaming it! 🙂

I have just dug out the Invoice from the engineer and he has put down 120rpm rotation speed on wool wash on the print-out.

I know there is not much difference from 90rpm to 120rpm but I wonder if this is right to be rotating at this speed (120rpm)

He also put down on the print-out : Advised normal operation as advised by helpdesk.

I lose a bit of confidence when a proper Hotpoint Engineer comes out and has to phone up a help desk to check what speed the drum should rotate at as he said to them: ‘ I haven’t got any paperwork on this kind of machine’. (WF840)
