ParticipantThe wash cycle gets stuck and just continues indefinetly showing 0.01min.
On the fast 30 deg wash it empties straight away after filling and Display shows a flashing F7 code.
Does anyone know what can be causing this and the fix. If we stop program and restart on Rinse/Spin cycle it will complete ok.

Possible fault on heater circuits, may be the heater but sounds more likely to be the main pcb. 😥

Ok thank you for the reply.
Just for a little added information, the F-07 error code does not always appear.
I have just set the machine to fast wash at 60 degrees, the first Two times I set it, it filled, turned the drum for about 1 minute then emptied and came up with the error code F-07,
the third time I set it, it carried on the washing cycle indefinately showing 0.01 time left on the display. Please could you tell me, is there more than One program controller / circuit board fitted on this machine that could be the problem or is there just the single large PCB that sits behind the buttons on the upper front panel ?

That pcb is not the main power module, only the control/display module.
The fact that it is intermittent suggests that the heater relay on the main pcb in the base at the back is failing.
That pcb is around £100 but needs a £20 smart card and a £100 card reader to program it when new. 😥

Thank you iadom.
I’ve had a quick look and have seen the control module fitted at the bottom left had side of the machine.
I removed all of the plugs / connectors in turn to check for Blackening /signs of bad contact but all seem to be clean / ok.
I’ve also checked the heater and connections and again all seem to be ok.
I plan to remove this main controller and check for dry joints / obvious signs of bad contact etc.
Apart for the possibility of the P-07 error code being caused by this failing relay, could it also cause the washing cycle to continue indefinately down to 0.01 on the display.
Are there any tips you could give me with regard to what else to do / look for if I find that all the joints appear ok.
If all esle fails and I could obtain a used main controller, would I be correct in assuming that I could fit this straight onto my machine and it would work normally.
(Again assuming that the main controller is / was the problem)April 22, 2013 at 4:20 pm #393966iadom

The control module up at the top is not the cause of your problems. The pcb in the base is the power module on which the faulty heater relay is situated. You will be unlikely to find a used, replacement that will just slot in without being reprogrammed TBH.
If you are handy with a soldering iron you could try and replace the heater relay on the power module but that is not guaranteed to succeed.

Thanks for the reply.
From already having had a look and from what you’ve said so far, I realise that the main control module located at the inner bottom left hand side of the machine is the likely problem.
I’d like to know if the failing relay that you mention that is a part of this controller PCB, could also cause the machine to carry on the washing cycle indefinately whilst showing 0.01 minutes on the display.
Also, I’d like to know that if I were to be able to get my hands on a used main controller from the same model, would it be a simple case of a like for like swap and away we go, machine back in normal operation.
Thank you and regards,

.
Very unlikely indeed that you will get a POWER MODULE that will just slot in and work.
A faulty heater relay will give the symptoms you describe.

I don’t wish to appear to be, if you like, a little slow on the uptake, but am I right in saying that what you’re telling me is that each individual Hotpoint WF860 controller module has been programmed to that particular machine and will not operate in another machine of the same make and model with out being reprogrammed ?
Thank you and regards,

There are a few different configurations, even on the same model. Rather than waste money on an unknown quantity you may be better off sending it to someone like EMW for test and if needed repair.

Update.
Problem turned out to be a failing heater element.
I did a resistance test with a multimeter and depending on if I applied pressure to the bracket where the electrical connectors are I would randomly get a reading then nothing / open circuit.
I replaced the heater element and the machine is now operating normally.
Thank you all for your help / suggestions.
Regards,Soulman.

UPDATE.
Well after over Two weeks of normal operation the machine has returned to its 0.01 minute never ending wash cycle.
I’ve not had time to have a look at or check anything on it yet as its literally just started playing up in the last couple of hours and I’m not in the mood for buggering about with it on a Saturday evening.
Any pointers guys ?
I’ll obviously check the heater connections and continuity and also the temp sensor.
Should I find they’re all ok is it safe for me to assume that the dreaded relay / main controller is the problem ?
Could a failing relay / main controller cause a (New) heater element to fail.
Your help and advice is as always much appreciated.
Regards, The Soulman.

Apart from physical damage from coins or the inner drum , water leaks or in rare instances the heater being switched on with no water in the drum there is very little else that can damage the heater. Any faults on the pcb are very unlikely to damage the heater.
