I’ve recently realised after having to close all the doors in the house that my washing machine sounds like it is spinning a bag of spanners. The display is now illegible and an awful lot of grey dust has appeared on the floor around machine along with a small piece of metal, and tonight it has completely shut down. I realise that I now have a sick machine of only 7 months of age and I have arranged for an engineer from Comet to come out. Does it sounds salvagable and what should I be asking the engineer? 😕

Grey dust will be concrete…….. Top weight probably torn off, so new tank required. The odds on a Comet service engineer turning up with a tank on his van can be equated to the odds of Elvis being alive and well on Mars, so when they fail to fix it, hold out for a replacement. It’ll probably be quicker than waiting for them to order the part, come back, fit, find out they’ve forgotten something, re-order, wait another fortnight…….

Sorry, got my cynical head on tonight. However, the above is the likely sequence of events…….. 🙄

    Regards,
    Penguin45.

Thanks for the advice. Do you think I would get a better response from Hotpoint than waiting for the Comet engineer to go back and forth?

No – first year service on all Comet sold product is through Comet themselves. They have bought out the guarantee from the manufacturer in order to achieve extra discount on their purchase costs.

    Good luck,

Cheers for the help guys, just an update – on first visit the concrete weights were repositioned. Phoned Comet again as the machine was leaking everywhere, on second visit the engineer noted a huge hole on the top of the drum which he glued and am now awaiting a new drum to be fitted and hopefully this will sort out the ‘swimming pool’ puddle in my utility room! So far has taken a month to get sorted and three days off work but I’m still smiling … just … 😉
