    Back again, with yet another Hotpoint related problem.

    Seems to be a 4 year manufacturer as both the tumble dryer and washer have developed potentially fatal problems at the same time.. grrr

    The washer has been sounding like a bag of spanners on full spin for about a week, and tonight it threw a fit, shuddering and screaming like a stuck pig when spinning.

    It was turned off and a quick turn of the drum by hand suggested the bearings had given way. It is very notchy and even clicks and pops as it is turned.

    I’ve got the top off and can hear that the sound appears to be coming from the rear of the drum, but how do I get to the bloomin thing. The case appears to be all one and I can only think to either drop the complete assembly out of the top of the machine whilst it is upside down, or dismantle the front section and push the sides and rear away ?

    Please can somebody advise the best way to get access to the damn thing before I go buy another one. (And probably more importantly, how many bearings does it have that could potentially have failed, and are they easy to replace.)

    Don’t bother – you’ve got a 5 year parts warranty on it, so pay The Indesit Company the £100 and let them deal with it.

    The cost of buying a new tub rear, drum support and seals will exceed that easily.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

    Do I need the reciept for the warranty as we no longer have it following a house move that lost a box full. 🙁

    Also the paddles have been replaced due to my daft daughter trying to wash her muddy trainers. Would this be grounds for Mr Indesit to refuse a warranty claim, or do they simply fix things no questions asked, provided I pay the labour.

    Providing you returned the original guarantee form, you’ll be on the system, so shouldn’t be an issue.

    Paddle failure is not contributary to bearing failure.

    It’s a one-off payment, so even it takes them several visits, there is nothing else to pay.

    BTW, when you ring in, the first thing they try and do is sell you an extended warranty, then they tell you that it’s only guaranteed for 14 days – this is not true – the repair is guaranteed for a year; the whole machine for 14 days.

    should not be a problem, the manufactre date will show it is under 5 years & many have had lifters replaced

    Thanks again.

    Just spoken to the OH and she thinks we have had it longer than I thought and it might be 5 yrs and 6 months.. doh.

    And she doesn’t want it fixing, she wants a new one … lol.

    I think we’ll go for a ISE5 as we do a hell of a lot of washing with 2 kids a dog and a love of sports that get all of us very mucky 😆

    With that model number the chances are that it is well under five years old, post up the serial number from inside the door hinge and we should be able to date it.

    ahh, ok. Cheers guys. Looks like the OH’s memory is wanting a new ‘toy’ for the kitchen.

    I’ll get in touch with the service centre tomorrow – Is it best to call the Hotpoint number as shown inside the door?

    Engineer is booked in for Wednesday afternoon.

    tbh although the call took a while to answer, the woman who took it was professional and easy to deal with.

    She did push the warranty and some cleaning fluids, but all in all it was well handled.

    £99.98 down and the engineer can apparently fix 98{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of problems on site during the first visit.

    If not they give 21 days to repair it, which would be a bit of a pain to say the least.

    Still, £100 to repair it is a good price imo. (whether or not it should be failing after 3 yrs is another debate 😉 )

    Will post again when the engineer has been, but thanks for the help so far 🙂

    Follow up post to the engineers visit.

    I wasn’t here but the OH was.

    He was very descriptive about what he’d done, and had all the parts in the van.

    Ended up replacing the rear drum half, drive belt, heating element and control panel.

    The panel was ok before he started and lit up like a Christmas tree when he turned it back on. (It usually does this as a self test, but normally goes out – this time it didn’t)

    So a lot more replaced than my £100 justifies (at retail price anyway 😉 ) and good, speedy and friendly service to boot.

    All in all I am very happy with the whole afair, and I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another Hotpoint machine – assuming it lasts at least another few years and if I hadn’t read up on here before 😉

    Personally I would respectfully suggest that when the time comes you buy something that isn’t going to fail as disastrously as this machine has done and one that won’t cost you £100 every time you need an engineer. 😉
