Hi!
We have a Hotpoint WF865 washing machine that as developed an annoying symptom. On the 40 degree wash it should take 1hr 25mins to complete. It has now started to take longer and longer to complete the wash. It gets to the rinse OK then it adds 20 mins (approx) to the countdown. It then, sometimes, adds 20 mins again, before completing the wash satisfactorily. No fault code appears. The filter is clean and all drains clear. The machine is now 7 years old but is still in super condition.

It could be one or two things, poor/variable cold water fill pressure or a dirty inlet valve filter. Any of these would extend the programme times due to slow filling.
It could be syphoning during the rinse cycle, due to the outlet hose being too low or sealed into the waste outlet pipe.
It could also be OOB or ‘out of balance’ loads. This is very common when ‘underloaded’ with heavy items etc. The machine will make several attempts ( as many as 30 or more ) to try and balance the load, this will greatly extend the programme times.
Try the machine on the problem programme without any clothes ( and no detergent ) in and see how long it takes.Re: Hotpoint WF865 Rinse/Spin taking too long.

Ran it with a full load of towels and it ran 50 mins late. It seemed to be really struggling to rinse out the soap.
So, I checked the inlet valve filters and found the cold water one clean, but the hot water filter was very dirty. Cleaned and replaced.
Checked the ballast weights and they were fine.
Ran the machine through a cycle with no soap and clothes. Ran fine and finished 5 mins early. So the program is OK.
Ran it again this evening with a smaller load (three quarters full) and it ran perfectly.
We’ll try it again on a full load and see how it does.
I still suspect it’ll struggle with the full load, but we’ll see.
I’ll keep you updated. How exciting!

What do you call a full load.. I have seen 1000’s of people overloading there machines and nor one of them thought that had done so.. both washers and dryers work 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} better with a smaller load..

In truth you are far more likely to get OOB by underloading, particularly with heavy items. If you can put a clenched fist into the drum above the clothes then you have not overloaded, if you have to push hard on the door to close it then you have.
Small loads are fine for smaller items of clothing but larger, heavier items are better washed in full or near full loads.
You could be oversoaping or have a partial pump or filter obstruction, this would also lead to problems.

Am I right in saying there is only the one filter – in the black drain hose at the bottom of the drum? I found a £1 coin and an Allen Key in there last week. However they weren’t causing an obstruction. (Amazingly).
Oversoaping is most definitely a possibility. At least that’s what it looks like in the middle of the rinse cycle! Suds! Having said that we don’t think we’re putting any more in than usual…
We’ll keep an eye on it but any more ideas are very welcome!

Just be thankful that you found the coin and allen key in the sump, many less fortunate people find the coin or allen key on the floor together with gallons of water that have flooded out of the hole they have punched through the outer drum.
The coin trap/filter in that hose is the only one.
