ParticipantI have just replaced the top springs on my washing machine , but still find the drum still bounces more than usual , thought of putting a extra set of springs to correct it .
Any thoughts or advice .

Hi
Youtr problem is possibly a soft suspension or cracked chassis which makes the drum ‘twist’ from the centre line.George

Does it have suspension arms ?
I did not realise as I only thought it had the front & rear springs .
Please advise .August 10, 2009 at 10:20 am #294227iadom

If you use the old trick for checking car suspension shock absorbers, push the drum down from the top and release it quickly. The drum should return smoothly to its original position. It should not ‘bounce’.
Looking from above the drum should appear square inside the cabinet, it should not be twisted or leaning to one side.
There are two suspension units, one either side underneath supporting all of the weight. The top springs just keep the drum in line.
The suspension kit is available from the Shop@ but is not an easy job to replace, not technically difficult but like going five rounds with Mick Mc Manus or Jacky Pallo. And if you know who I am talking about you must be an old git like me. 😀

While your at it check to see if you now have a few holes in the top of the door seal due to the drum pushing against machine front panel when the spring broke 😉

I have checked the suspension like you say , and it does seem to return a bit wobbly , so I will have to check out how to replace the suspension legs , can anyone give me any advice on how to go about it .
I have also checked the door seal , all o.k.

Cheers , everyone .Electrics off, front panel off, machine on it’s sides, long arms, brute force and ignorance, blood everywhere should do it. The nuts holding the rods to the drum are the most difficult part to change, until you have done a few that is 😉
