ParticipantHello all,
I have this oldish washing machine, it’s 11 years old, but still goes. My missus was recently complaining that the machine was stopping mid cycle or was not starting. When I looked at it I noticed the on-off switch was a bit dodgy. I was initally able to force the switch in using a piece of plastic so that the switch was fully depressed the machine worked fine. This worked fine for half a dozen times but now it does not start at all.I removed the top lid to have a look at the switch, and removed the two screws on either end of the top vertical support rail just above the timer, switches etc, but now I’m stuck, I don’t know how to access the on/off switch, Any ideas?
While snooping about I also noticed the the grey seal which seems to join between the door and the drum has split at the top so would probably need reeplacing also.
With these issues and bearing in mind the age of the machine would I be better off just getting a new one?
Thanks for any advice!

Try these links
On/off sw £5.95
http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … cts_id=539Door seal @ £14.94
http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … ucts_id=76This Wm range of hotpoints are prety reliable/robust machines I would reccomend that this option of repair would be Cheaper than replacing the machine.
Hope this helps

that was quick, thanks!!!
I think I’ll buy the bits, but can you let me know how do I get to access to the on-off switch – do I need to remove the front plastic panel which has the progam selection buttons and timer?
Cheers

thanks wvm,
I got the on-off switch removed. One of the white plastic surrounds on one of the blue neutral wires seems to have melted and broke off when I pulled the wire off the switch. Is this white plastic block on the contact required or can I do without it? I could simply push the remaining bit of plastic block over the end of the contact, and I guess this would be OK.
I’m going to order up a new switch ayway.
Looking at the door seal this appears to be tricky to replace (not much space). Is this an easy item to replace, and if so could you give me step by step instructions.
Thanks again wvm, much appreciated.

Pretty straightforward really but I’m afraid we can’t give you step by step instructions for legal and safety reasons 😉

thanks, I understand that bit about safety and legal reasons… 8)
would I need to remove the front panel to replace a door seal on the Hotpoint WM13 or are there any other tips that make it easier, I’ve read a bit of washing up liquid helps to get the door seal on Bosch models, would it help on the hotpoint?
Thanks 😉

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WM13 Washing Machine ON/OFF SWITCH
Hi again,
I received the on/off switch today (ordered from the link UK Whitegoods), and have fitted it, but there is a problem with the switch ….
The switch is a slightly different type from the one which was replaced.
When the switch is pressed in the washer is off, when the switch is released the washer turns on (opposite from correct operation).
This would not have been a problem, but for the fact that to turn the washer on, the white plastic cover sits out further than normal, so I cannot turn washer on with the plastic front panel in place. I can operate the washer with the plastic fron panel in , and the small white switch cover removed but this is not ideal. Anyone come across this problem before – do I need to send switch back or can I modify it? The washer is a WM13 P.

It’s the wrong switch I’m afraid.
The link given was for the switch that fits most of the WM range but not your model, please send it back to the address on the outside of the jiffy bag (Exeter) and I will send you the correct one 🙂
Sorry about that.
Dave.
