Hi all, I’m a newbie here, and am here because I’m having trouble with my washing machine, Hotpoint WM21. It works ok til it gets to the beginning of the spin cycle, and the motor turns, but only slowly. It had a new fhp motor fitted about 3 yrs ago, and I thought it may need new brushes, but I took out the old brushes, and they look fine. There is not a huge amount of commutator arcing, and the motor seems to want to try and start spinning fast, then backs off. I then though it may be something to do with an out of balance sensor? Does the same thing when empty though. The drum does seem to move around a bit when it starts turning. Any ideas??? Any help would be much appreciated, as I’m a bit broke at the moment, and could do without a big bill… ❓

Took the drive belt off to see if motor worked ok free, without throwing the drum around, and it still only runs slow. There is also a clicky squeak coming from the motor, as if the bearings have gone, but spinning the motor by hand (power off!!) it feels smooth, there is no front / back play in the armature either. Question, if the motor has gone south, is it worth buying a new one, or binning the machine and buying another?? ❓

if the motor washes okay, replace the timer (power off) 😯 There are however a number of timer/pcb versions for this model suggest you get a local repairer details on site
