ParticipantHi,
Its probably been asked time and time again, but here goes.
When our washing is on, it frequent stops. If you press where the door locks, it starts again, albeit for a few seconds or few minutes (it can take hours to get something washed!!)
Is it the “interlock”? and will item number #1601697 fix this?
I just want to confirm I get the right thing
regards

Hi: Yes it certainly sounds like a classic Door Interlock problem & the part number 1601697 is listed in our online shop as the direct replacement for it.
PLEASE REMEMBER POWER OFF & PLUG OUT IF YOU TACKLE THIS YOURSELF. 😯

Very common problem with particular interlock.
Like specialist says… make sure to UNPLUG first before u do anything.May 1, 2009 at 3:32 pm #283860obyapka
ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WM22 door lock
thanks for the advice.
The spares arrived today (interlock as well as a replacement door seal).
I’ve removed the door seal (had a small tear in it beside the interlock), and the old interlock, and I’m in the process of fitting the new interlock – but the screws that hold the door catch to the interlock are not going in, as the interlock :
a) has smaller holes, and
b) the holes appear to have no thread. Before I proceed, can someone please advise if this is normal, and should I use the existing screws to “make a thread” or not?

Screws are, ‘self tappers’ they will cut their own thread.

Even the existing ones with this machine? They’re quite a narrow thread, and cut off so they have no point.

I dont think your lining it up correctly? i could be wrong…

I thought there was only one way to align it, by inserting the two protruding “nipples” into the holes on the washing machine, and then put the screws in – but there are no threads to accept the existing screws.
The previous interlock appears to have little bolts (mecano sized) that the screws threaded through.

The door interlock used to come with 2 new self tapping screws.
You may have to find two self tapping type screws that will fit.
Make sure they aren’t too long as they will damage the new door seal.May 1, 2009 at 6:27 pm #283866iadom

😳 Didn’t realise it was that old. They changed the doorlock to the self tappers 10 or 12 years ago. They will need to be countersunk as well or the door won’t close correctly.

I’ve found a couple of sawn off screws that are a suitable size, and using the self tapping suggestion, I now have the interlock (and door seal) in place. We’ve tried a wash and all seems fine.
thanks
