Using an old Torx bit and an extension, give the heads a right whack! That usually cracks them ready to unscrew.

Did that, and again, and again. Judging by the pulley nut, I think the guy who assembled the machine had shares in loctite…..

Am i missing something or does the spring sit onto the inner bearing collar.

😕 This seems a strange arrangement to me too; seems certain for a short life for the seal and bearing. I cant rember who / where but I think I heard of a modification for the WMA bearing assembly.
    Any comments / help welcome.
😀 😀 The ongoing technical forum I find very helpful and interesting. Many thanks to all.

    1. Are the hex screws welded into the spider?? broken hexes, broken drills, empty can of wd40 and still they laugh at me

Not really but they might as well be, only solution= New Inner Drum

The bearings are aligned with a factory press, which is difficult to duplicate correct bearing set-up without such a tool. The spring does indeed sit onto the bearing collar (acts as a static discharge contact)

Best replace Drum Assembly in future I reckon. As penguin rightly points out (which I have since discovered) the Drum Assy carries a 5 year guarantee for Merloni to replace on a Labour Only basis. Left them have the problem!

There’s a new range of Hotpoint W/M’s coming out very soon, God ‘elp us!

Quite right I have recieved this morning info regarding these from Hotpoint. 11 new models all starting with prefix WF and new colour options ie Graphite, Polar,Aluminium and Sandstone ( which looks like a replacement for natural Linen) but I could be wrong as I have only seen a picture 😉 . Prices look similar to current models so i do not expect any better build factor but who knows. Spin speeds from 1000 to 1600 RPM all now take 6KG load. No mention yet as to when these will be available but I will keep you posted so you can keep an eye out for them.
