I have been told that if the bearings and spider go in this machine that you can get a complete tub and drum to drop straight in, is this true and if so does anyone know the part no.

Also is there anywhere online that you can see a breakdown of Hotpoint appliances for parts identification.

    thanks

John, re-check the model number (WM32S does not exist, but there is a WM32P/A/W and then there is the WMA range), if it is a WMA32S then a drum complete is one option, part number 1603410, £128.15 list price ex vat. You can also get the individual parts though.

No, you need to purchase the Merloni DVD/CD rom, it covers all Merloni and GDA appliances, about £40 IIRC.

    OK.

The drum complete part number is as the previous post. The rest of the parts separately are:

    Rear Tub c/w Bearings 1603409 £43.06
    Drum Spider 1604290 £21.75
    Bearing Kit 1604080 £15.41
    Tub Seal 1603293 £7.60

All prices are Hotpoint list (SSP) price ex vat.

    Re: HOTPOINT WM32S

I have contacted Hotpoint who are going to supply me with the disk but they say that I have to fill in an application form first, seems a bit long winded but hey!!.

I have not bought parts from Hotpoint for about 10 years and wonder if they give any discount to non account holders?

I see from their website that you need to spend 5k a year on parts to open an account, do Hotpoint adhere to this policy or will they let me open an account.

That’s for the license agreement, they all do this, it’s to stop any copyright infringement and you need to enable it after installation with a quick online connection to Merloni.

Not sure on that one, but I think so as long as you can confirm you are in the trade you should get some discount.

They will let you open an account, and no I doubt very much once opened it will be checked for turnover. I always tell the manufaturers that my expected turnover is unknown when trying to open an account, but it will be higher than the minimum expected 😉

Once you have got the CD Rom Merloni Disk you at least with then be able to see the parts you want and get it quicker from all the other National Wholesalers. Merloni are a bit slow with deliveries and often to secure the job you need Next Day Delivery.

John, you can get exploded diagrams of most models at:
    http://www.theservicecentre.co.uk/Service/fr_shop.html

Just enter the model number and when you get the list of parts available, click on the jigsaw in the detail column, This should open acrobat viewer in your pc (assuming you have it) and show you a detailsed exploded diagram. Only problem is that it doesnt include your model number for some reason.
By the way, GDA will accept a faxed trade order and give discount even for a debit card payment.

You still HAVE to change the spider and centre seal as well; or you’re wasting your ( and the customer’s) time and money.

We’ve simply been giving customers the Helpline no. for WMA’s – 0161 442 8677. Hotpoint turn up and replace your entire drum assembly for £85 if you’re out of guarantee. Why should I bother? It may be updated, modified and tweaked; BUT it’s still JUNK.

No wonder Merloni bought them ( and it wasn’t REALLY because Merloni tried to buy Marconi). I’m sure they can recognise fellow cr4p when they see it!!

    Feeling cynical? I am.

Merloni’s ‘Labour only’ offer only extends to machines under 2 years old. Lots of WMA32’s are older than that and fully chargeable !

NO, they don’t ……. You ring the number on the thread above (which is not a Hotpoint direct number), say the magic words – Noisy and Watch dog, and they will come and put you a new tank in for £85. I’m telling you the truth!!

I recently went to 3 year old one locally, gave the old boy the number; he rang up while I was there and they turned up and did the job three days later. It’s worth bearing (no pun intended) in mind that ALL that number does is sort out tanks; nothing else.

Got a pet customer? Next time, try it! You won’t have to stand the guarantee either.

    Penguin.

    Re: HOTPOINT WM32S

Following on to the above, for the first time ,I’ve attempted the bearing change on a WMA (washer….my arse), and I think It’ll be the last.
Even as a workshop job for the hell of it with every tool available its got me beat.
    1. Are the hex screws welded into the spider?? broken hexes, broken drills, empty can of wd40 and still they laugh at me…..masterpart have none available…..Doh!
    2. When I finally got the split collar out (the drilled groove method) and the new bearings in, put the sprung seal in place and ..Hey Presto Stuck solid bearings. Am i missing something or does the spring sit onto the inner bearing collar.

    Give up.
    Ring 0161 442……….
