ParticipantEvening all,
I have recently acquired a second hand WM51 serial no. 53159486 for cleaning dog blankets, dust sheets etc however this is only the 800rpm spin model, Is is possible to increase the spin speed to 1000 or 1200 rpm. i have looked on varoius spares websites and the major components (motor and timer) appear common to the WM52(1000) & WM53(1200) machines.
I have looked at the timer pcb (AKO 513280) and the only item that would appear to configure the different spin speeds is a small yellow 3 pole plug on the edge of the pcb with resistors between pins 1 & 2 and 2 & 3( if i have read them correctly of 530 ohms each).
If this is the speed configuration plug would anyone possibly have the information to recode this plug.
The motor fitted has a 6 pole connector to it and is manufactured by ACC.Many thanks & regards
J

Hi: Sorry but we don’t provide information on how to Modify appliances from Manufacturer specifications for Legal & Safety reasons.

Thanks for the reply, however i had hoped for something a little more constructive, having looked around the web i can only find references to the speed resistor for the 800rpm machine and as the motor and timer module are capable of being driven to 1200rpm on an almost mechanically and electrically “identical” machine, the only discernable difference being the fascia artwork and the original purchase price due to the addition of control to the maximum spin speed, namely the speed resistor strapping plug, one has to make the assumption that the 1000 & 1200 spin models (wm52 &53) either have different resistor values or none, as opposed to the connector being used for a binary logic input to the controller, and as a google search only finds the speed resistor 800 for the wm51 and nothing for the 52 or 53, i would probably be correct in thinking that if the plug had managed to come loose and disconnect itself from the edge of the pcb due to excess vibration that the maximum spin would approach 1000 or 1200 rpm.
Any constructive comments or part numbers would be appreciated.January 26, 2011 at 10:51 pm #342548gandh1

constructive comments are the ones being posted here right now.
What you have to remember is you are in the public domain and no matter how competent you feel you are with what you are asking about, no one on here will dare risk losing ukwg because some numpty tightwad has seen your post and thought, hey, rather than me buy a new machine that does 1200 ill play with my 800 and get it to go fast, and kills themseves or a family memeber in the process. then because it can be traced to ukwg, they will sue the pants of ken etc.
the only way to find out is verbally from someone in the know. yes we ARE in such a litigous society now. and your tone of posting certainly wont warm the other engineers on here to you.
besides, 800rpm is plenty for the kinds of things your washing, just leave it on the line a bit longer. or pick up a noisy hp t/d off ebay for a few quid and stick a bearing kit and belt on it. both options are far safer and will get your rags much dryer than the increase in spin speed which probably equates to about 8-10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} more moisture removal.

If your machine has a GDA motor then you would need a new motor as the original motors were either 800, 1000/1200 or 1400 rpm motors.
Also some of the earlier drums were not designed to to run at the higher speeds so the advice from Specialist1269 is as good as it gets and you should heed it.

besides you might need new laminate carbons to cope with the increased friction heat
maybe im getting my knickers twisted but the hp boys will say if im wrong with that, anyways either way WASTE OF TIME EFFORT AND MONEY!
spend it on a decent pint and chillax time 😀

As an aside to this,
I once did a call to a customer in the Grasscroft area of Oldham. A 1000 spin machine with a faulty motor.
Wife was out, husband in charge. I did not have a 1000 rpm motor, only an 800 rpm one.
I told him this and he said “will she notice any difference”, I said I very much doubt it and at his insistence fitted the 800rpm motor.
This was to a much older machine than yours, a Hotpoint 1848. I went to that machine for a further 15 years and not once did she mention any problems with the spin performance. 😀

Thanks for the replies, comments noted, no offence intended, i appreciate thay the engineers on this site do a sterling job of trying to help the general public with their problems, the machine in question was aquired at no cost, the previous owners decided to replace it with an offering from hotpoint’s current owners as the slightly shabby almond wm51 didnt fit into the look of their new kitchen !, It had been maintained on a service contract and most parts have been replaced in the last few years, as it appears not to be feasible/possible to effect a spin speed upgrade to this machine, i will hang onto it until i can drop on someone else throwing out a good 1200 spin machine and scrap it, something which is against my better judgement as its not ecological.
once again no offence intended, i just thought it was worth a shot to try to improve the performance and make use of it.
P.s the motor is an ACC with a red/orange label and doesn’t sound as screechy and whiny as the GDA ones on other HP machines i have heard

💡 after the first spin, why not give the washing a shake and re-spin it. Worked for me with my 800rpm machine if i wanted to bother to do it , on blankets, jeans and the like 😀
I dont know of course if re-spinning at the same spin actually gets more water out, it didnt seem to if i never re-positioned the washing 😉
Or was it all in my :conf: mind 😆
Seems a lot of work for little gain TBH. And IMO if you cant find much info by Googling etc then that is usually for a very good reason 😉
regards
