ParticipantMachine had been in storage for 2 years and went “pop” when she turned it on.
Replaced timer, brushes, heater and door interlock.
It all worked OK when I left.Got a phone call later on, saying it wouldn’t spin.
Went back to it, to find one of the brushes had welded its plastic casing round the carbon – it had got a bit hot!
Re-checked insulation – still showing OL on my machine (>9999MOhms), and yes, I did check the leads to make sure they were in correctly.
Resistance across motor pins of terminals is less than 8 ohms all around the armature.
Replaced the brush, gave it lots of functioning, removed it and checked it again and it was still ok, refitted and functioned – still working fine.Phone rang at 9 last night – it’s not spinning again.
Any ideas, please?

It pumps out ok, though – would this cause the carbon brush to weld, like it did?

The pumps can sieze intermittantly, especially when older, they are usually noisy when worn.
If the pump is perfect then the armature is faulty.

Don’t forget to renew the pump though, or you’ll knacker the new armature for sure 😉 .

Had one of these a few years ago – changed armature etc. – turned out to be intermitant pump problem.
Hotpoint allowed their machines to spin part/full of water for years !!! :rolls:
