ParticipantHi,
I have a Hotpoint WM52 Washing machine and the inner drum support has sheared on two of the paddles. I cannot get the pulley wheel off the rear of the shaft in order to get the inner drum out and wondered what type of puller is best for this? Is there a special one or is a normal three legged one good enough for the job.
Also will the inner drum remove easily once the pulley is off or is there anything else I might encounter???Many thanks in advance for any help

30mm spanner is what you need, and a seriously large hammer. Lock pulley with the shaft of the hammer, remove nut. With the pulley still locked, bump the drum clockwise from the front to get the pulley loose. It will then unscrew.

This is what you want, if you’re going that far, you might as well do the bearings as well.
Power of, of course.

Thanks for the reply Penguin, The nut is off, It’s the pulley that appears stuck to the shaft. Is this normal? I thought maybe it was on a taper or something hence the question about the puller.
Cheers

No, pulley is on the same screwthread. Post should read “bump anticlockwise from the front, BTW – sorry about that.

No problem Penguin, Once again thanks for the reply. After reading your reply a second time I realised you had said the pulley unscrews. Really must learn to read with more patience 😀

One last question, just to save trial and error 😮 . Can the bearings/Seal be fitted to the outer drum when it’s in situ and what holds them in place. I.E. do they just lever/drift out or is there any retaining devices.
Thanks Again

They’re just an interference fit – add steel drift to list of tools. Tub stays in place, just try to knock them in (or out) evenly without twisting, or you can damage the bearing housing.

Thanks once more Penguin and can I just check that the part you linked to definately fits the WM52P as it isn’t in the list of machines on the page. It jumps from 40’s to 60’s.
Cheers

Hi again,
Somone told me that with these machines the replacement seal for the bearings is glued in otherwise “You’ll flood the place” was the quote. I just wanted to check if any of you have ever heard of or had to do this???
Thanks

Thanks for the reply. Guy reckoned if you didn’t glue the seal in it would leak water somehow ❓ ❓
Only way I could see is if you didn’t clean up the bore where the seal sits before fitting.
Thanks again
Cheers
