ParticipantHope someone can help…..
I am working on a hotpoint WM62, the machine goes right through the cycle but barely warms up.
I have tried the following:-
Change thermistor, change heater, change pressure switch, change timer, check continuity through wiring heater & thermistor to timer and pressure switch.
When run on 90 deg cotton the heater is not switched on until it reaches 60 deg position and then only heats for approx 1 min then again at 40 deg again for only 1 min.
My customer said she bought it recon so I know other hands have been in here but I cant see anything dodgy.Any help most welcome….

I think this model has an economy button, check it hasn’t been bypassed as this would cause timer to skip the heat cycles.

Ensure that the connector block from the option switches is on the correct position on the module and check that the speed resistor has not been connected to the variable temp connector by mistake.

This is one of the most common faults on this series of timer/module BUT…. remember that these machines do not ‘static hold’ unlike earlier WM machines (the 904/2385 series of timers hold without motor action until the water is quite warm). So, if the water is quite cool as it goes in on a WM62, it will still march through the program and not get anywhere near the correct temperatures. The thermister merely slightly delays the onward movement of the timer. The heater will go on & off at various points until it reaches the rinse stage. If the heater is open circuit, these timers will still go through the program. The best way to check these timers for timing faults is to put the machine on the long spin program and check for a 4-5 minute spin. If it does this ok, chances are you have a good timer. If you want to try another timer, then you can ‘borrow’ one of ours for £5+vat for 21 days. Tony 0115 9652118

He’s already changed the timer Tony.

Hi folks
Think Tony might have a point here because if the heater isn’t working the machine will march through programe… but if the heater is coming on then you should be able to pick that up with a ammeter. If the heater isn’t coming on then there might be an open circuit in the heater wiring somwhere if the wiring hasn’t been secured properly. (crimp ends etc.)
Just a guess?

There is a maximum time period allowed for each heating step to reach the required temp. (can be up to 20 mins) If the time period is exceeded the timer is advanced to the next step. If there is NO detected rise in temp over any continuous heating period of 5.25 mins, the timer will advance to the next step.
With my limited experience on these machines 😉 I would have to disagree with Tony on this one.
I have changed many timers for sticking on heat and boiling, I have never, ever changed a timer for a ‘no heat’ fault. It has always been the heater or its circuits at fault, causing the ‘poor wash complaints’ that initiated the call in the first place.
As this is a recon, my money is still on Tim & Bobs suggestions, the variable spin and temp connections are adjacent and the plug will go on either, only a £1 each way though 😉
