Hotpoint WM63 Overfilling on rinse

Not been to see this one yet but according to customer above machine is very intermittently overfilling on rinse. Always uses 40C “E” programme and he reckons that about 1 out of 10 it will overfill on rinse. If he catches it overfilling he switches off notches on timer it drains and carries on the rest of the cycle without any problem :?.

Now I know customers fault descriptions can lead you on a merry dance but he’s been studying this fault for a few weeks and seems certain of what’s going on. Timer always seems to be at 6 o’clock position when fault occurs.

Can a faulty timer cause intermittent overfilling? as I can’t think of it being pressure switch/hose/vessell problem with the fault being so intermittent.

Any help/advice much appreciated.

it will probably be pressure tube rubbing on upper tub clip. This sort of customer always makes a more statistical log of faults. they have nothing better to do than make up graphs of there washing machine fault. Probably work in a boring office job all day! 😀

Check the pressure bottle is clear of any build up of gunge.

agree with above probably pressure hose with small hole in it

a quick visit to b & q for plastic hose does the trick

as an explanation to why it only happens on rinses the machine takes in more water which lowers the drum and opens the hole in the tube

Cheers guys , waiting for customer to phone me back , no doubt he’ll wait till he floods his kitchen floor again :rolls:.

Incidently the chaps at EMW suggested checking for loose edge connectors on the timer/pcb as this has been known to cause intermittent over-filling problems.

Will follow-up sometime in the future (hopefully :))
