ParticipantHi all,
I’ve got a Hotpoint WM65 washing machine and yesterday it started its program fine and then halfway through it just stopped. The clock seems to tick ok, but it just doesn’t progress any further. Switching the machine off and advancing the clock one tick does not work either. The only thing it seems to be capable off is filling/draining water. The drum doesn’t spin either (although it briefly did). The load we put in is minimal, really only sufficient to test it.
New clock? New motor? New washing machine?
Thanks in advance

ParticipantSome more information. I opened the washing machine up and cleaned the drain filter. I removed all sorts of dirt and rinsed it under the tap clean. Reassembled the drain pipes again and tried again. Still the same.
With the top off, you can see the clock moving, but it doesn’t change program step. If you manually move the dial of the clock one step forward it will do that step of the program, but it will not proceed further than that. Neither will the drum rotate at any stage.
I’m thinking I need a new clock, but I can’t explain why the drum isn’t rotating (there is no load in it btw).
Thanks again

ParticipantThe plot thickens (or should I say, the sky clears)… I explained a bit (what I could explain) to my wife and pointed out that IMHO it was either the clock or the motor. When I showed her the carbon brushes she said that it looked like one was sticking out slightly. So I pushed it in (no force was required) and re-tried the washing cycle… it is now still running (including the drum)!
So, with that in mind, would this indicate that the brushes need replacing?

From memory, the computer tries to run the motor 130 times, before just giving up. Given the modest cost of replacement, I’d just change them to be on the safe side. These are what you want:

Power off, of course.

Cheers Mr Penguin.
I’ve put an order in and keeping my fingers crossed I don’t have to rush out and find myself a new washing machine before Christmas 🙂

KeymasterQ,
No mods to it while you’re in there! 😉

ParticipantWould it be a world first if I made a combined coffee-washing-microwave out of it? 😉

Keymaster/me despairs as there’s no hope for Q 😉
