What about drum paddles, are they loose or worn? or any chance of bra wire popping through drum from time to time.?

Bra wires a favourite poking up through the drum now and again.
Splits in drum, raised holes from coins pushing the drum inwards causing sharps.
Run your flat hand all around the inner drum and also press firmly where sides join in case of split.
Shine a torch through the holes towards heater position and you can usually see any foreign objects.
