Had no motor action on this today and it has the FHP motor onboard,
The Contol unit has a 6.3amp fuse soldered on the the board and according to the manual it states :

Quote : The PCB contains a microcontroller and integrated electronics. A 6.3 amp fuse is fitted on the control unit. This is for safety purposes to protect the motor if either the drum or motor are jammed. This fuse is connected in series with the motor overload and is not replaceable.

    Unquote,

Now I could find no reason mechanical or electrical as to why this fuse had blown the result being loss of Motor action. The Motor checked out fine and although one could replace this fuse Hotpoint state that it is not replaceable meaning that a new control unit is the preffered option.

    Any ideas ?

test the motor and stick a fuse in, usually find the end caps pull off the fuse easily allowing a new one to be fitted, if not just solder one in. Check the wiring form the motor socket to the motor internals has not chaffed against the metal bracket that supports it.

I have had this fuse blow with something as simple as a sock stuck in the drum. On later models it was moved into a cartridge in the wiring harness.

As Mark mentions the loom often chafes on the motor bracket where it is lashed tight with cable ties. I usually bend the end of the bracket back as well as repairing the cables.

It also chafes under the turn of the cabinet where the two cable ties strap the loom on.

Thanks Guys, I did as a matter of course check the wiring loom both at the motor plug and the underside of the cabinet for chaffing as that is common especially on the WD series. Nothing chaffed I am going back to take the front plate off and drum out as I have had the sump off already.

I think the current drawn on the FHP motors is very close to the
fuse rating,i have had them blow if the machine has been overloaded.
