What do you mean by ‘Heater locator’?

It’s a very short heater so should probably be OK without support for the hot end.

The “heater locator” is referred to by Hotpoint as a ‘Heater Bracket’ (Pt No. C00112690) and clips onto the heating element prior to locating it into position. If that bracket is “missing” it must have fallen off somewhere inside the drum I guess? Slide out one of the drum lifters to search for it, I would. 😉

Don’t know if molding gives room to cut slot in a bit further back and then use longer / extended heater bracket? If so you might be able to cut slot using hot piece of metal / modified solder iron and “heater hole surgery”.

Errr, hold up! You’re confusing me on this (don’t take much by the way.:rolls:) The heater bracket is fixed to the heater prior to inserting it in place. Are you with me so far? Now, that heater bracket protrudes beyond the actual length of the heater, the end of which slides under the front drum moulding, thus holding it in place. So based on that fact do please explain where your problem ‘sits’….???(please forgive the pun by the way – can’t help myself sometimes. 😈 )

Its obvious, he means the moulded lug on the inside of the drum the the heater clamp slides under has broken off. Simples. 😀

If he is talking about the heater locating lug which is part of the drum, which I think he is. If he is using the short heater surely by removing the Heater Locator from the heater everything should be ok so long as the mounting side is secured properly and there are no cracks around where the lug broke off.

Not always the case. If the lug has been broken off then this customer is one who doesn’t check pockets etc. They don’t change in spite of how much you tell them.
If the loose heater gets hit by a coin etc and bent it can easily start to hit the drum.
The old brass heater bollard would have been ideal but I did once repair an old WM drum by drilling a hole in the drum and then using a non ferrous bolt, metal and rubber washers and two nuts fashion a heater bollard that lasted for another ten years.
A fix that even Mike would have been proud of. 😆

Excellent work, Jim!I had a situation like this on an old 95 series once. Took me ages to figure out where the tapping noise on spin was coming from. Can’t remember how, but I did fix it.

You could always fit a Zanussi 1247825100 Heater fixing spring come to that then without drilling holes through the tub, a self tapper will suffice!
If needs must that is? 💡
