Have very seldom fitted a new tub seal to anything. Always give the old one a clean, pop it back in, then top up with a bead of silicone. Only with the early Hotpoints with their tubular type seals did I resort to fitting new ones (when they were a couple of quid) as it saved time. It’s best to fit the old seal back, then add the gunk, otherwise air can get trapped.
If you look at the mating faces of that tub in your pic, you’ll realise there’s a kind of chamfer and the seal has to fit close to that surface with the narrow edge facing towards you (IIRC, short term memory not what it was).
The way you’ve got it in the pic, it’s never gonna seal.
