this one is for all the bearing experts out there , put some bearings in this machine and got a new tub seal also but when i put it together using silicone about 2 days later it leaked onto the motor , i took it apart and put the seal in flat on the tub mating surface(no silicone ) and it leaked again whats the correct position for this seal and do you have to use silicone? thanks this pic shows the seal flat this image shows it vertical

The seal should go side on if that makes any sense, you might find the plastic tank is warped tho…

Never, ever used silicone sealant on a WMA type drum seal. As mentioned above, you have the seal on the wrong way.

Have very seldom fitted a new tub seal to anything. Always give the old one a clean, pop it back in, then top up with a bead of silicone. Only with the early Hotpoints with their tubular type seals did I resort to fitting new ones (when they were a couple of quid) as it saved time. It’s best to fit the old seal back, then add the gunk, otherwise air can get trapped.
If you look at the mating faces of that tub in your pic, you’ll realise there’s a kind of chamfer and the seal has to fit close to that surface with the narrow edge facing towards you (IIRC, short term memory not what it was).
The way you’ve got it in the pic, it’s never gonna seal.
    Mike.
