I’ve just replaced the bearings and spider on this machine, and I think I managed to put it back together all right. The problem now is that when I try to do a wash, the water runs into the soap compartment for a short while, but no other water comes in. The machine then carries on as if it had water in it, but is dry. Although very noisy before I changed the bearings etc, the machine had been working.

Sounds like you may have connected the wiring incorrectly. 😥
Make sure that both taps are turned back on and that there is water coming out of the hoses.

Yes, checked that, thanks. Since my last post, I tried running the machine on “rinse and spin”. It took water in, and rinsed for a while, then a pop niose and some smoke from the programme board. Reckon I must have made a mistake plugging the electrics back in. Oh, well…
