    Hi there

I am new to the forum, and I hope I am not repeating any questions about this machine.

i have a hotpoint WMA 54 washer that has developed a very loud noise during the spin.

It actually sounds like a weapon of mass destruction when the high speed spin kicks in.

I have no idea about washing machines, and i have a feeling my warranty has run out.

can anyone give me any ideas as to what is making the awful noise??

Almost sure to be the drum bearings – if you are out of guarantee it will almost certainly be too expensive to repair, if in guarantee you will be better having a fixed price repair from Hotpoint.

It will be the bearings, it requires a new rear half.

WMA54 was from 2003 on, you may still be under the five year parts guarantee.

If you post up your serial number from inside the door hinge we may be able to date it with some accuracy.

If it is under five years old then you will only have to pay the labour charge.

It is always worth checking if the concrete blocks have come loose. There are two, one on the top of the outer drum and one mounted on the bottom front face of the outer drum. Each is held on with 3 big self tapping type bolts.

i dont think its the concrete blocks

when i turn the drum by hand, it seems like it is grinding.

i have checked the documentation, and i have extended warranty

    thanks for all the replies
