ParticipantGot the bearings fixed by an engineer from hotpoint on Friday. he said dont use till sunday.
Have just tried and the damn thing just fills up part way and waits a minute and then empties as though it is all done!#
Very Frustrating any ideas?December 3, 2006 at 9:48 pm #196899Penguin45

Flashing lights? Anyway, get him back – somethings probably not been reconnected properly……
Did he give you a reason for not using it for two days, BTW? New one on me!

Digital display panel on these ( I have the exact same model) error codes , not flashing lights.
Like P45 I can see no reason whatsoever that you could not use the machine at once after a bearing change. 😕

Almost seems obvious to me, it’s Hotmerloni, wanted two days to be as far away from it when it was put back into use 😉

Now, now – I did wonder if there was a serious point to the Hotpoint fitters advice…..

He may have used a silicon sealant, which required time to cure…

Company engineer shouldn’t be using sealant. The tub centre seal should have been replaced as a matter of course, which should ensure no leaks. Most of us have a tube of DeBor stashed somewhere, which is a solvent/rubber based compound and is useful if there is some doubt as to the integrity of the sealing surfaces, however, it sets off in about 20 minutes…….
The job hasn’t been done correctly and our poster will hopefully report back as to the results of the second visit.

Are the plastic tubbed machines any more susceptable to bearing failure, than the steel tubs?
Can the plastic wear, causing an eccentric orbit on spin?

The bearings are mounted in an alloy housing, cast into the tub moulding. They do seem to fail more easily……. The tub construct is not as rigid as the old alloy backplate or iron cross-piece machines; and do produce their own unique failure – the housing working loose in the moulding is an occasional fault which seems to be becoming more common. This particular machine is part of a family which suffers from a dodgy water seal. Hotpoint have uprated it, which has largely cured the problem, providing that the drum shaft has been replaced at the same time.
