ParticipantWhat is the general opinion for the repair of these machines. Many of my customers are unwilling to shell out for the rear half? What is the success rate for just replacing the drum support, bearings and seal. I even tell the customer to contact Hotpoint to get the machine repaired under warranty for the call out fee. Where is the best price for the spares? Any comments will be greatly received.

We do quite alot of wma bearing jobs – not too bad once you’ve got the knack. A lot easier since they’ve done away with the compression spring on the seal. As for getting the plastic lugs out, i just give them a spray with wd40, make sure there nice and loose then push retaining lug in with thumb and hey presto it’s easy with a pair of long nose pliers 😉 The bearing kits are fairly cheap now 🙂 Wouldn’t give too long a guarantee though ❗

Rear drum half expensive. 😕 Just over £32.00 ex vat from Masterpart.
I would guess that I change three or four drum halves using the original drum support for every drum support I change. I always make an attempt to remove the bearings but don’t break my neck trying. Full 12 months g/tee on all rear halfs, even with original drum support. Not had a single bearing failure on any such repair in the past five years since the introduction of the Rubena seal.
PS. Always fit new suspension pegs, old one often come loose.

on my last two visits to bearings i have decided to fit rear halves, the last m/c was wf430 i looked it up on masterpart and the rear halve was 1603409 same as the one before but as before the bearings were to big. i ended knocking bearings out and replacing just the bearings. How do you know which is the right rear halve to order ? Is there only two different rear halves one with large and one with small bearings, If so what is the part number for the small one. Also i saw on Masterpart a complete outer and inner drum assembly for £77 has any one gone down this route of changing the complete assembly

There is no rear half for the 30mm bearings, only for the 35mm ones.
