    hello all

Hotpoint wma drum usual split drum think model number is wma32
the drum is jammed up and sometimes releases going clockwise if its pushed round, first i though usual beaing failure but when it releases it spins round a few times with no noise at all, then restriction again, its stuck with something but theres no noise at all nothing metallic frees up the gets stuck again if you get the picture?

any ideas? ould there be something jamming in up? iv checked the rim between drum and tub for any ballbearings as iv come across this on a zanussi few times were a kid manages to get something in the rim and its stick, i cant feel anything there or see anything

    anyway ill stop waffling

These early WMAs are renowned for bearing problems, Id put it on its back, pull off the sump hose, remove the heater and see if you can see an obstruction (ie a sock) stuck between outer and inner tub

…..or take one of the drum paddles off and take a gander inside? 😉

The only way to be certain is to open the patient up. I have had several instances of coins etc getting stuck between the drum spider and the drum itself. Had one WD420 that they managed to get a 20p coin stuck like this, nice little earner for full strip down, blow me three weeks later I’m back , this time it is a large disc type earing stuck in exactly the same place. :rolls:

Also had to strip one down for a sock behind the drum a couple of weeks ago, just as Ian mentioned.

You would not be able to see any of these by removing the lifters or heater.

Been to a WD420 this morning which had same problem. Took out half offending rag via paddle hole but still something invisible is causing a jam. Please somebody come up with a clever fix to avoid necessity of total stripdown (machine in horrible corner of cluttered flat). What about if I took off the dryer manifold? Could I fish around from there?

You could always revert to your method with Bosch motor mounting bolts, drill a hole through the back. 😆

New drum paddles arrived and went back today. Can’t believe how easy it was. Five screws hold the dryer assembly to the top of the drum and they all face up at you so you can get at them easily. Move the assembly aside, take out a little filter thing and you have a perfectly placed access opening to get at the back of the drum. Turned the drum round half a turn and there was that sock staring at me. No need for the curtain wire and hook I’d brought with me. Just pull it out with the long nosed pliers.
    Ten minute job.
    Mike.
