ModeratorWent to this machine today, WMA34 about four years old, customer difficult to understand, English very poor, machine covered in mice droppings which he decided to brush off just as I was removing the lower back panel, flicking several of them into my hair, 😈
Complaint was of a leak. I eventually noticed that the drum pulley appears to have sliced right through the back of the drum all the way round,
Strange thing is the drum appears rock solid, bearings whisper quiet, belt firmly in situ on the pulley, no movement in the pulley that I could see, even with a bar levering the pulley.
Unfortunately or perhaps not given the state of the kitchen they decided to replace the machine so I cannot remove the drum to take a closer look.
I have never seen damage of this kind before without any sign whatsoever of bearing failure. 😕July 27, 2006 at 7:41 am #183295Martin

Transit strap (or counterweight) bolt may have fallen onto the pulley and got stuck maybe?
Or a Dangermouse stunt that went terribly wrong? :rotl:

I went to a WMA machine this week, complaint was the drum banging as it turns. Sure enough, it was banging as I turned it by hand but more of a twang than a bang. I took the belt off and spun the drum again, silence this time. I looked at the belt, perfect; I turned the motor shaft, also fine. I checked the motor bolts for tightness, both slightly loose; I checked the bolt on the plastic drum pulley, also slightly loose. Tightened the 3 bolts, refitted belt, no more banging/twanging 😀

You will possibly find this had a black plastic pulley? if so belt has come adrift wearing through tub rear and may have had belt been re fitted by someone B4 you arrived, have seen this happen.

No, metal pulley, well away from drum. As I mentioned it was not easy to get to get much sense out of this customer due to the poor English so I was unable to establish any details of previous repairs. Outer drum looks original though, no evidence of drum change. Unfortunately I didn’t have my camera with me or I would have taken a piccy.
