ParticipantHelp!
I have a WMA10 Hotpoint washing machine and it has suddenly developed the following problem: when you select a programme (with the “PROG END” light on) and then press the “Start/press to reset” button nothing happens. Neither the “Active” or “Door Locked” lights come on.
All Ideas gratefully received!
Cheers and Thanks
David

Is the programme end light coming on as soon as you select a programme on first use of the machine, is the programme end neon steady or flashing?
Jim.

Hi Jim
The “PROG END” light is on steady and come on as soon as you select any programme.

That may not be good news, programme end light on steady is used to indicate an out of balance condition at the end of a cycle and the Spin neon should be flashing. If the End neon is coming on as soon as you select a programme then it points to a PCB fault. It may be due to loose or bad connections, please take care to remove the mains plug if you intend to check this. How old is the machine?
If it is under 5 years old you are covered by Hotpoints 5 year parts gaurantee, the labour charge is a little steep though.Jim.

Jim
Not sure how old the machine is, it was my mothers.
Is it worth me removing the PCB and cleaning the connectors etc? Is there any way I can test to see if it is the PCB, if so then I can replace it.
By the way not sure which neon you mean by the “SPIN” neon; however, the “PROG END” is the only one on.
Any ideas how much and where I can get a PCB?
Cheers

I think one of the three option buttons alters a spin function, that one would flash if there was an out of balance condition.
To be honest the PCB connectors on this model are normally OK but there is always a first time, this type of fault is very unlikely to reveal any visual damage on the PCB.
Part is around £70 + vat so I would make certain it is faulty first. If in doubt you could try the link below. 😉

Thanks a million!
I tried the test, initially it went as you described however, pressing the start button made no difference.
I took the PCB out and checked the micro switch under the start button to find that it had lost its “top hat”. Without the press button in place and using a ball point pen it worked fine.
So I stole one of the kids Lego figure lightsabres (vaguely appropriate as I think they may have been playing with the washing machine) and modified the start press mechanism a bit and it appears to now work!
Thanks again.
Cheers
