ParticipantHi
Sorry to come in with a first post but I was after a little advice.
Machine details:
Hotpoint WMA13
Purchased new Oct 2002
Use, not much for the first 8 years but recently 2 adults and one baby. Maybe 3-4 loads a week.
Parts previously replaced. Heating element. Door rubber.
Bearings seem OK.
Brushes are down to about 15mm but still have enough life by the looks of it. Stator looks OK.My Details:
I’m an electronics engineer but I also tinker with DIY and mechanics. I don’t work in the white goods trade.
Issue:
Starts a wash cycle, drums fills with water but instead of it starting to agitate, the drum spins up as if going into a spin cycle for a few seconds, then stops, then displays program end.
If you set it to fast spin the waste pump runs but again it spins up for a few seconds, stops and then goes to program end.
Note this was intermittent. In fact the first time it happened I took the Control PCB out to check for burnt tracks, ensured the edge connectors were clean and replaced it, it then worked OK for a few weeks. However its packed up again.
I have a schematic for the machine but cant find one for the control card. However tracing through there seems to be a couple of relays related to the motor control, these seem to be on and off with maybe too much regularity?
My question:
Does this sound like it could be the control card or could there be a problem with the tacho feed from the motor?
I’m also concerned that if it is the control card has something external caused it to fail. If so are there any normal suspects?
Many thanks

More likely to be a related tacho fault, broken wiring near the motor plug or wiring harness chafed on lower concrete balance weight. Can also be loose tacho magnet, very rare on the Bosch motor but can come loose on the FHP or CESET motor, all three types used on this machine.
Complete motor to pcb harness is available and is not expensive.Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Hi Iadom
I did check the plug when I looked at the brushes. Will check the harness.
I have plenty of switch gear cable so I could run my own up just to test.
thanks again

Breaks at the motor plug are not always obvious, give each wire a gentle tug.

Hi Iadom
I measured the tacho cables from the PCB, open circuit.
After closer inspection I found a broken wire on the loom to the motor, it was pin 2 which is the tacho! Crimped it back together and all is well.
Not only have you helped save me getting a new machine you have saved one going to the tip.
Many thanks and a virtual pint to you sir.
Have a good weekend.
Cheers

Thanks for the update, as I have just returned from a two week cruise round the Baltic, a virtual pint is all I am allowed until my waist gets back to normal.
