Purchased in 2003 this ‘First Edition’ has an intermittent fault. Some times the ‘Door Locked’ indicator light continues to flash after pressing the ‘START’ button and the machine fails to operate. Frequently pressing against the door/ reopening & reclosing etc eventually gets the machine to start.

Please advise likely cause of fault and estimated cost of repair or advise if machine is passed its use-by date? 😥

Re: HOTPOINT WMA22 DOOR LOCK FAULT

before you go to the trouble of buying a lock the door springs have a habit of snapping. normally one side goes first so the door handle wont go all the way home

look at this picture on site shop

    https://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/hp19103 … handle-kit

the spring has 2 arm with loops on the end check if one of them has broken

As a simple test you can also push the door handle towards the machine as you press start

Re: HOTPOINT WMA22 DOOR LOCK FAULT

Given the age of this machine, if it has not already had the door interlock changed then I would strongly advise changing both the handle/spring kit and the interlock. Due to it’s age sooner or later the door interlock will fail and blow the main control module.

If the old interlock is a red one be sure to reverse the wiring plug. Instructions for this are usually in the packet with the switch but the non gen ones often have a photo copied leaflet which is often smudged or unclear.

Re: HOTPOINT WMA22 DOOR LOCK FAULT

Would some please advise me of the likely estimated price of a service engineer call out to replace both the interlock and the door catch assembly?.

14 year old machine! time to buy new :plug: Opinions welcome.

Re: HOTPOINT WMA22 DOOR LOCK FAULT

prices will vary with area so its difficult to be accurate
    but
if its the door handle you can carry on using the machine if you hold the handle forward as you press start. The machine will then function as normal. When it comes to an end the door interlock will release after 3 mins or so and if the door does not open easily you may have to push the handle forward to release it
Of course as Iadom says if you want to be certain the interlock wont blow and kill the machine it needs to be changed. If you don’t and it works use it till it dies

    you could go here

find a local member and ask for a price
