I have also come across where the door lock circuit( blown tracks) that were caused to brushes going on the motor. Maybe brushes caused it?

It is indeed the door interlock triac that is blown in this case. 😉
For future reference Mandells, if you follow the blown part of the circuit to its respective connector plug it will point you to where the fault lies. In this instance terminals 1 & 2 on the XI connector block direct to the interlock. 🙂

also will add with wma’s with any repair to always sling it back and check wiring for rubbing next to weight, its no surprise to find a nasty looking bunch of wires that have been mashed and some shorted together.

Just out of curiosity, do the numbers on the triac shown relate to its “type/value”? As on occasions when ive had a board with a blown triac ive thought about replacing it with one from an old board but although they look identical, the numbers dont match. Does anyone replace these triacs and if so where do you get them from?
Thanks

Have a search around the RS site http://www.rswww.com and become a customer. Free next day delivery (DHL) on everything. I have ordered a special battery at 95p and it comes next day no carriage charge whatsoever. Grab it while it lasts. They have an humungous range of items and if you can’t see what you want just call or e-mail for proper technical help.
You can also find out about unusual components by just putting the numbers off it into Google and finding hits in electronics forums. Great way to learn.
Another tip: Read all Andy2’s posts!
