Hotpoint WMA32 – door will not open

Hi

Sadly I find myself back on your excellent forum for help and advice. This time with our washing machine. (Thanx again for all the help/advice and supplying the parts to fix our Smeg range) 🙂

The problem is with our Hotpoint WMA32 washing machine. It has just finished a normal wash on program “E” and will not allow the door to be opened.

The “end” light is NOT lit.
The “door locked” light IS lit.

I am unable to get the door open by holding the “re-set” button.

Has the machine emptied completely?

Switch off at the mains and then wait a few minutes, if the door opens but you still have some water in the drum then you may have a blockage in the sump hose/filter assembly.

If the door will not open then it may be the door lock itself that has failed.

The machine is completely empty – I’ve since done a rinse & spin, it empties fine but the door is stuck shut! 🙁

Have you isolated the machine completely from the mains, if you have and the door will still not open then the door lock or handle is faulty.

I changed a doorlock this afternoon with this exact fault and have another one to do tomorrow.

If you feel up to it, THIS is the part you may need.

You will need to unplug the machine, take off the top and reach down and waggle or bend the old one to release it.

I’ve unplugged it completely from the mains for about 15 mins but the door is still stuck.

I guess I’m gonna have to go inside now! 🙁
